An eternity band of ovals or emerald cuts is a statement all by itself. Here's how each shape looks, stacks and wears.

Short answer

Fancy-shape eternity bands use ovals, emerald cuts, pears, marquises, hearts or radiants instead of rounds. They look bolder and more individual, and each shape gives a different rhythm around the finger. Because full eternity bands generally can't be resized, confirm the size carefully, and check that every stone is matched in outline and set in the same direction.

A round eternity band is a smooth line of light. A fancy-shape band turns that line into a pattern — overlapping ovals, a chain of hearts, a row of step-cut rectangles. It's one of the most personal ways to wear an eternity ring.

Shaped stones make the size question harder, not easier. A band of large ovals or emerald cuts has fewer, bigger stones round the finger, so each size step changes the count by a whole stone and the stones must be spaced to close the circle exactly. That's why fancy-shape eternity bands are best ordered once, at the right size — a full eternity band has no plain metal to cut, so it generally can't be resized later. If your size changes through the year, a three-quarter or half eternity gives you the look on top with a plain section underneath that can be adjusted.
