A Tennis Bracelet and a Watch
They look excellent together and they damage each other, in one predictable direction. Which one loses depends on numbers you can look up.

Short answer
Set stones sit at Mohs 9.25 or 10. A steel watch case is around 5.5, gold is 2.8, sapphire crystal is 9. So the bracelet will mark the watch, not the other way round β except the crystal, which is close enough to fight back. Wear the bracelet on the opposite wrist, or keep a real gap and put the bracelet above the watch.
The stack looks good, which is why it is everywhere. What nobody mentions is that two pieces worn touching on the same wrist are in contact for every hour they are worn, and the harder one wins that contest every single time.

Read down the right-hand column. There is no configuration in which the watch wins. A gold watch is the worst case β it sits below even the quartz in ordinary dust, so it is being marked by the room as well as by your bracelet.
The sapphire crystal row is the interesting one. At Mohs 9 it is genuinely close to moissanite at 9.25, and the Mohs scale is ordinal rather than linear so those numbers sit nearer each other than they look. That is the one pairing where both pieces can mark each other.
The bracelet is not unharmed either
The stones are fine. The metal is not.
A tennis bracelet's settings, links and clasp are gold at roughly Mohs 2.8 or silver at 2.6, and a steel watch case at 5.5 will abrade those without effort. What you get over a few years is a bracelet whose stones look perfect and whose metal is visibly worn along one side β and metal thinning at fifty small settings is exactly how stones eventually come loose.
So this is not a question of protecting the watch at the bracelet's expense. Both pieces lose something; they just lose different things.
What to do instead
- Opposite wrist. The complete solution, and the only one with no trade-off. A tennis bracelet on the non-watch wrist also moves more freely, which is what makes the stone line catch light.
- If same wrist, put the bracelet above the watch β further up the forearm, where the wrist is wider. Gravity then works to separate them rather than to slide them together.
- Leave a real gap. Not a centimetre of hope β enough that they do not touch when the arm hangs. A slightly shorter bracelet helps here; a long one migrates down onto the watch.
- Put a soft buffer between them if you want them adjacent β a leather cuff or a fabric strap absorbs the contact.
- Take the bracelet off first at the end of the day. Most stack damage happens while dressing and undressing, not during wear.

The damage people blame on stacking usually did not happen on the wrist at all. It happened in the drawer β a tennis bracelet and a watch lying in the same tray for years of small movements, which is a far more effective abrasive machine than a day's wear.
One soft pouch per piece removes that entire category, and it costs almost nothing. If you take one thing from this page and it is not the stacking advice, make it that. It is the single highest-return habit in owning jewellery, and it applies whether or not you ever wear the two together.
If you want the look properly
A tennis bracelet in a stack works best at the smaller stone sizes β 2 to 2.5mm reads as a fine line of light rather than competing with a watch face, and it sits lower so it is less likely to ride up over the case.
Two more points. Match by fineness number rather than colour word if the watch is gold; 14K beside 18K reads as two different tones, and pieces on the same wrist are exactly where that shows. And a bezel-set bracelet is the better stacking choice than four-prong, because prongs are the parts that catch on a watch bracelet and on knitwear.
