Ordering Jewelry for a Fixed Date
Work backwards from the day it has to be in your hands β not forwards from today.
Almost everyone plans a jewelry order the wrong way round. They look at a delivery estimate, add it to today's date, and decide there is plenty of time. Then a size query, a weekend and a customs hold turn plenty of time into a phone call about whether the ring will make it.
The reliable method runs in the other direction. Start at the date it must be worn, and subtract.

Deadlines are not all equally hard
Before you panic about a date, work out which kind of date it is.
Immovable. A wedding day, a flight, a graduation ceremony. The piece is either there or it is not, and there is no version of the event that waits.
Soft. An anniversary or a birthday. Giving the gift a few days late is a footnote, not a failure β and celebrating on the nearest weekend is normal anyway.
Self-imposed. A proposal you have decided happens in October. You chose the date, so you can move it. People forget this and end up rushing a decision they will look at every day for decades.
Only the first kind justifies compromising on the piece itself.
If you have already left it late
Choose express at checkout. It only compresses transit, but transit is usually the larger half.
Choose a simpler setting. A solitaire is quicker to set than a halo or a pavΓ© band. If the date is genuinely immovable, this is a better trade than rushing the size decision.

One thing worth doing on the day you order
Write the date you expect the parcel in the same calendar as the event, with a reminder a week before it. If that reminder arrives and there is no tracking number yet, you have found the problem while there is still time to solve it. Most late deliveries are late because nobody checked until the week of.
