Diwali and gold have gone together for generations. Many families mark the season with a new piece of jewelry, a gold coin or gifts for loved ones. For families living outside India, the tradition continues — but it often meets a new question: what will a daughter or daughter-in-law who grew up in the US actually wear?

We're a Surat workshop, and every Diwali season we see the same gap between generations. Traditional family gold is often 22K — rich, deep yellow, and soft. Everyday jewelry made for the US market is usually 14K or 18K, which is paler and harder-wearing. Put a 14K piece next to 22K family gold and the colour difference is obvious. If the gift will be worn alongside inherited 22K pieces, 18K yellow is the closest everyday match; if it's for daily office wear, 14K will stand up to it far better.

Timing your order

Made-to-order jewelry needs production time plus international shipping, and November carriers are busy. For Diwali on 8 November, aim to order by mid-October. If you're sending a gift across a border, the recipient may be asked to pay import charges on delivery — check whether the price is landed and the destination country's official customs guidance, as rules change.
