A round brilliant scatters light so heavily that it is the least colour sensitive of all shapes, so every metal works. Yellow gold is the traditional choice and warms the whole ring, white gold reads as the most contemporary. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and holds pave more securely over years of knocks.

Frequently asked questions

Why six claws instead of four?
Six claws grip the stone at more points around the girdle, which is more secure as carat weight rises, and they give the round a softer circular outline. Four claws expose more of the stone but leave slightly more of its edge unprotected.

Will a wedding band sit flush against this ring?
Yes. The head sits above the band rather than extending down the finger, so a straight wedding band sits against it cleanly without needing a curved or notched shape.

Is the back of the band plain?
Yes. The pave covers the shoulders only, which keeps the underside comfortable against the finger and makes future resizing straightforward.

Why is a round brilliant the most popular shape?
Its 57 facets are cut to return the maximum light back to the eye, so it sparkles more than any other shape at the same weight, and that sparkle also masks small differences in colour and clarity.
