Round Cut Lab Grown Diamond Six Claw Knife Edge Solitaire Ring

A round brilliant lab grown diamond held in six flat topped claws on a knife edge band. A knife edge shank is not round in section. Its two faces angle up to meet in a raised ridge running along the top of the band, so instead of a soft curve reflecting one broad highlight, you get a sharp line of light travelling the whole circumference. It also makes the band look narrower than it is, which is why a knife edge is the classic way to make a large centre stone look even larger. The six claws are finished flat rather than rounded, echoing the same faceted geometry. No accent stones anywhere. E colour, VVS2 clarity, free IGI certificate. Made to order in Surat in ten metals and four carat weights.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. A knife edge depends entirely on how the metal catches light along its ridge, so the polish and colour matter more here than on a rounded band. Yellow and rose gold give a warm line, white gold a bright one. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and keeps the ridge crisp for longer.

Ring size

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. If you are unsure, measure the inside diameter of a ring you already wear or ask us for a free size guide before ordering.

Custom orders

We can add pave along the shoulders, change to four claws, add a hidden halo beneath the stone, or make the shank rounded instead of knife edge. For any other customization request please contact us at https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and we will quote it before you order.

Frequently asked questions

What is a knife edge band?
A shank whose outer surface is formed by two angled faces meeting in a raised ridge along the centre, rather than being rounded. It catches a single sharp line of light and makes the band read narrower and more refined.

Does a knife edge wear down?
The ridge softens very slightly over many years of wear, as any polished edge does. Choosing 14K rather than 18K slows this considerably, and we re polish rings free of charge as part of our lifetime service.

Why six claws?
Six points of contact share the pressure around the girdle rather than concentrating it at four, which is the most secure way to hold a large round stone. It is also the traditional profile people recognise as a classic solitaire.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
A straight band meets the shank along the ridge line rather than flat against it, so there is a very slight gap by design. Many customers choose a matching knife edge wedding band, which we can make to the same profile.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.

Do I get a certificate?
Yes. A free IGI certificate for the centre stone comes with every order, listing colour, clarity, cut grade and carat weight.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time to your address.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond gives the same hardness, brilliance and fire as a mined stone at a fraction of the price, which is what makes a certified 4 or 5 carat round brilliant achievable. It is created without mining, so there is no excavation and no doubt about origin. Every centre stone we set is independently certified.
