Three pears, pointing different ways

The centre stone points up the finger; the two sides point outward. Because the rounded ends face each other, the three nest together with very little metal showing between them, and the outline of the group reads as one shape rather than three.

Repeating the same cut

Using the same shape at three sizes gives the ring a coherence that a mixed three stone does not have. It also makes matching critical, since three pears side by side will show any difference in colour, clarity or outline immediately. All three are cut and selected together.

Every tip is covered

Three pears mean three points, and a point left standing proud of its claw is the part that chips. All three sit fully inside their claws.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold, but every metal is made to order and priced above. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Both side pears are matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The side stones are cut to proportions that follow the centre pear, and all three are set together so the tops finish level and the joins stay tight. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

Some photographs show this ring with stacking bands or worn alongside another ring. Those pieces are separate and are not included. The ring box shown is our standard packaging and comes with every order.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, brushing behind all three stones and into the joins. Check the point claws once a year. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? All three pears are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight.

Does the carat weight include the side stones? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre pear. The two side pears are in addition and are scaled to suit it.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Can I have the side pears pointing inward instead? Yes. It makes a narrower, more upright ring. Tell us when you order and we will show you both.

Will a wedding band sit flush? A straight band sits against the plain shank, though the side pears overhang a little. A shaped band tucks under them, and we make those to match.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.
