The engagement ring

A pear brilliant cut lab grown diamond is set sideways, east-west across the finger, and held by two flat tab prongs, one at the point and one at the rounded end. The bypass shank splits into two arms around the stone. The upper arm is plain polished metal that sweeps over the pear, and the lower arm is set with a single row of round lab grown diamonds that run under the pear and grow larger as they rise up the side.

The matching band

The wedding band is a plain high-polish wave with a rounded profile. It is contoured to follow the stone-set lower arm of the engagement ring and meets it flush, so the smooth metal sets off the row of stones above it. The wave of the plain band follows the curve of the stone-set arm so the two sit flush.

What lab grown diamond means

A lab grown diamond is a real diamond. It is pure crystallised carbon with the same structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same fire as a mined diamond. Ours are grown by CVD and HPHT methods and then cut and polished by hand. It is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant, and a diamond tester will read it as diamond because it is diamond. The difference is origin and price: a lab grown diamond of the same size and grade usually costs a fraction of a mined one.

IGI certified center stone, free of charge

Every center diamond in this set is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, one of the most widely used laboratories for lab grown diamonds. The report states the carat weight, the E color grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the laser inscription on the girdle, and it confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. The certificate is included on every variant at no extra charge.

Choosing the carat weight

The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the center diamond of the engagement ring only. The accent diamonds on the rings are in addition to that weight. A 2 carat pear already reads as a statement stone on most hands, while 3 carat and above gives a bold look, and the setting is built to the exact size of the stone you choose, so the proportions of the design stay the same at every carat weight.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Gold options are solid gold, not plated or filled. 14K is the most popular choice for daily wear because it balances color and durability, 18K has a richer color, and 10K is the hardest and most affordable gold. Both rings in the set are made in the same metal so they match exactly when worn together. White gold is rhodium plated for a bright white finish and can be replated every one to two years.

Made to order in our Surat workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run jewelry workshop in Surat, India, the city where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. Each set is made to order in your ring size, the band is shaped against the finished engagement ring so the two sit together neatly, and the accent diamonds are set by hand. Engagement, wedding and anniversary

Propose with the east-west pear engagement ring and add the plain wave band on the wedding day, or give both together as a complete set. The design also works as an anniversary gift or a vow renewal ring set.

Caring for your rings

Clean the set with warm water, a little mild soap and a soft toothbrush, working the brush under the center stone and between the accent diamonds. Take the rings off for the gym, swimming and household chemicals, and store them separately so the stones do not scratch the metal of the other ring.

Is this a real diamond? Yes. The center stone and the accents are lab grown diamonds, chemically and optically the same as mined diamonds. This is not moissanite.

What color and clarity is the center diamond? E color and VVS2 clarity on every metal and every carat weight, with the accent diamonds matched to the same grade.

Is the IGI certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the center diamond is included in the price of every variant.

Does the carat weight include the accent diamonds? No. The carat option is the weight of the center diamond only.

Can I wear the engagement ring on its own? Yes. The engagement ring is a complete design by itself, and the band can be worn on its own or stacked.

How long does it take? Each set is made to order in two to three weeks, then shipped fully insured.

Can it be resized later? Both rings can usually be resized by about one size either way. We recommend ordering in your exact size so the two rings stay aligned.
