Pear Cut Lab Grown Diamond Sculptural Wrap Bezel Engagement Ring in Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

A pear cut laboratory grown diamond held by a single ribbon of metal that rises from one side of the band, curls around the rounded end of the stone and stops. The point is left completely open. The band itself bends away underneath, so the ring is asymmetric from every angle.

One piece of metal

Most settings are built: a head is made, a shank is made, the two are soldered together. This one is formed as a single continuous curve that begins as the band, becomes the bezel and returns. There is no visible join anywhere, which is why the ring reads as a piece of sculpture rather than as a stone in a mount.

Asymmetry on purpose

The wrap covers one side of the pear and leaves the other bare. The band dips on one side and rises on the other. Nothing about the design is mirrored, and that is the whole idea: it looks different from every direction, which a symmetrical solitaire does not.

The point is left open

Unusually for a bezel, the tip of the pear is not enclosed. The metal grips the wide end and the shoulders, where a pear carries its bulk, and the point projects free. It is a deliberate choice for the look, so if maximum protection for the tip matters more to you than the silhouette, our full bezel pear is the better option.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. White gold is photographed here, which suits the cool, architectural character of the design. In yellow or rose gold the ribbon reads warmer and softer, closer to a leaf curling around the stone. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

About the bow tie

Every pear has the potential for a bow tie, a dark band across the middle caused by the proportions of the cut rather than by colour or clarity. No certificate grades it. We check each pear by eye and reject the ones that show it, which matters on a setting this bare.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. A continuous wrap has to be formed and finished in one piece around your individual stone, with no opportunity to adjust a separate head afterwards. It is among the more demanding things we make. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Run the brush along the inside of the wrap where it meets the stone. Because the point is exposed, take a little more care than usual when reaching into bags and pockets.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight.

Is the stone secure with the point open? Yes. The wrap holds the wide end and both shoulders, which is where a pear can actually be gripped. The open point is a styling decision, not a structural compromise.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it? No, not flat. The band curves away on both sides, so this ring is designed to be worn alone or with a band on the other hand.

Can it be resized? Only slightly, since resizing alters the curve as well as the circumference. Please measure carefully and we will build to your size.
