Pave that leads to the point

A pear is a directional shape, and a pave band emphasises it: the line of small stones runs along the finger and stops at the widest part of the diamond, so the eye is carried up to the point. It is the reason this combination has become the standard way to set a pear.

The hidden halo

Set into the side of the basket, facing outward from the profile, so it appears only as the hand turns. From above nothing has changed, and the outline of the pear is untouched, which matters on a shape whose silhouette is the entire appeal.

The point is covered

The tip is the thinnest part of a pear and where damage happens. Ours sits inside a full claw rather than standing clear of one, which costs a fraction of the outline and saves the stone.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold, but every metal is made to order and priced above. A yellow band with a white metal halo and pave settings makes the small stones read brighter; tell us if you want it made that way. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Every accent is matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The halo is set into the basket before the head is joined to the band, and the pave is set last so the small stones sit level along a shank that is already true. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

Some photographs show this ring with stacking bands or worn alongside another ring. Those pieces are separate and are not included. The ring box shown is our standard packaging and comes with every order.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, brushing up into the hidden halo from below and along both sides of the pave. Check the claw over the point once a year. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? The centre pear and every accent are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on all metals and all carat weights.

Does the carat weight include the halo and pave? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre pear. All accents are in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Can I wear the point facing my wrist? Yes. Tell us when you order and we will set it that way round at no extra charge.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, against the plain back of the shank. A band shaped to follow the point sits closer still, and we make those to match.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back where the band is plain. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.
