Frequently asked questions

Why five claws on a pear instead of four?
The point of a pear is its most fragile area. A fifth claw, shaped like a V, wraps that tip in metal instead of leaving it exposed to knocks. Four claw pear settings exist but leave the point at greater risk.

What is a hidden halo and will I see it?
It is a ring of small diamonds set horizontally around the base of the centre stone, facing outward rather than upward. From above you mostly see the pear. From the side, and to the person wearing it, the halo shows as a bright collar under the stone.

Does a pear make the finger look longer?
Yes. The long axis of the stone runs along the finger and the eye follows that line, so pear and marquise are the two shapes most often recommended when someone wants an elongating effect.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
