Pear Cut Lab Grown Diamond Ring on a Chevron Band in Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

The V in the band

Rather than running level under the stone, the shank dips into a shallow chevron. That does two things: it drops the metal away from the widest part of the pear so nothing crowds the outline, and it gives a wedding band something to nest into if you want one later. The dip is subtle enough that the ring still reads as a plain band from a distance.

One accent, not a halo

A single small round sits in the gap between the pear and the point of the V, filling the space that would otherwise look empty. It is the least possible amount of extra diamond that solves the problem, and it keeps the ring from becoming a cluster.

Point up, and protected

The tip of a pear is its most fragile part. Set point up on a raised head it is also the most exposed, so it sits inside a full claw rather than standing proud of one. That costs a fraction of the outline and saves the stone.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold, but every metal is made to order and priced above. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. The round accent is matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The chevron is shaped by hand so both sides of the V match, and the accent is seated in the angle beneath the pear where there is very little room to work. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

Several photographs show this ring worn with a pave set band nested into the V, and one shows it with other rings on the same hand. Those pieces are separate and are not included. We make a band shaped to sit in the chevron, so ask us if you would like the pair.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, brushing behind the pear and around the small accent below it. Check the claw over the point once a year, as you would on any pear. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? The centre pear and the round accent are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight.

Does the carat weight include the accent? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre pear. The round beneath it is in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Will a wedding band sit flush? A straight band sits against the sides of the V but leaves a gap at the point. A chevron band follows it exactly, which is what the photographs show, and we make one to match.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.

Can I have it without the small accent? Yes, and it is a slightly lower price. Tell us when you order and we will quote it.
