Oval Cut Lab Grown Diamond Solitaire Ring with Tapered Claws and Wire Band

An oval cut lab grown diamond held in four long tapered claws on a fine wire band. The claws are drawn out and narrowed to points where they meet the stone, so they cover less of the diamond than a standard rounded claw does, and the band is made as a plain round wire with no shoulders or flare at all. Between the two there is almost no metal anywhere near the stone. It is the most stripped back oval setting we make.

Band details

The shank is a fine plain round wire of even section all the way round, with no stones and no widening at the shoulders. The claws rise straight out of it. We increase the wall thickness only where the basket sits, which is invisible from outside.

Metal options

Choose 925 sterling silver with rhodium plating, or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. White gold, rhodium finished, gives the almost invisible band shown in the photographs, which is the point of the design. Yellow gold draws a fine warm line around the finger instead. Rose gold sits between the two. Every metal is hallmarked and every carat weight is available in every metal.

Frequently asked questions

Is the centre stone a real diamond
Yes. A lab grown diamond is chemically, physically and optically identical to a mined diamond and is graded on the same scale by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the centre stone is included at no extra cost with every order.

Do tapered claws hold as well as ordinary ones
Yes. The taper is on the outside face only. The seat cut into the claw where it grips the girdle is the same as any claw setting, so the hold is unchanged while less metal is visible.

Is a fine wire band strong enough
Yes, because the section is thickened out of sight under the basket where the load is carried. For 4 and 5 carat centres we recommend 14K or 18K gold rather than sterling silver.

Why choose a wire band
Nothing makes a diamond look larger for less money. The eye judges the stone against the metal beside it, and a fine even wire gives it almost nothing to be judged against.

Can I wear a wedding band beside it
Yes. The band is straight and even, so a plain or pave band sits flush on either side with no gap.

How long does it take to make

A lab grown diamond is grown from a diamond seed under the same heat and pressure conditions that create diamonds in the earth. It has the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index and the same fire. What changes is the origin, the traceability and the price.
