An oval cut lab grown diamond set lengthways along the finger in four slender claws, on a slim plain band. This is the most requested engagement ring shape we make and the most restrained way to set it. There is no halo, no pave and no side stone anywhere on the ring, so the outline of the oval is the only thing the eye has to read. On the hand it lengthens the finger and looks noticeably larger than a round diamond of the same weight.

Band details

The shank is a slim plain polished band with no stones. It meets the setting cleanly at each side without flaring, so the claws appear to rise straight out of the metal. We thicken the section under the basket where the load is carried, which keeps the visible band narrow.

Metal options

Choose 925 sterling silver with rhodium plating, or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Yellow gold gives the warm classic look shown in the photographs and is the most popular finish for an oval solitaire. Rose gold reads softer against the skin. White gold, rhodium finished, keeps everything colourless so the stone dominates completely. Every metal is hallmarked and every carat weight is available in every metal.

Is the centre stone a real diamond
Yes. A lab grown diamond is chemically, physically and optically identical to a mined diamond and is graded on the same scale by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the centre stone is included at no extra cost with every order.

Why do ovals look larger than rounds
An oval spreads its weight along the length of the stone rather than into depth. For the same carat weight it presents a larger face up area, and the elongated outline also lengthens the finger.

What is a bow tie and does this stone have one
A bow tie is a dark shadow across the middle of an elongated stone caused by uneven light return. We select ovals cut to avoid it, and every stone is checked by hand before setting.

Are four claws enough for a large oval
Yes, when they are placed correctly on the shoulders of the stone. If you prefer extra security we can add two more claws at the ends at no additional cost.

Can I wear a wedding band beside it
Yes. The shank is straight and slim, so a plain or pave band sits flush on either side with no gap.

How long does it take to make
Made to order rings usually leave our workshop within 10 to 14 working days. We confirm the date by email once your size is set.
