An oval cut lab grown diamond held in four squared claws on a plain band that widens toward the base and narrows as it rises to the head. No pave, no halo, nothing but metal and one stone. Two details carry the whole design. The claws are finished as flat squares rather than rounded tips, so four sharp right angles sit against the continuous curve of the oval, and the band tapers so the eye is drawn upward into the stone rather than along the finger. Because there is nothing else on the ring, both decisions are fully visible, which is the point of building a solitaire this way rather than adding stones to it. With no stones anywhere but the centre, the metal colour and the shape of the claws are the entire design. Yellow and rose gold make the four squared claws read as deliberate blocks against the diamond, white gold makes them recede into the outline. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and keeps square claw edges and a flat polished band crisp for longer.

What are squared claws?
Claws finished with a flat square top rather than a rounded tip. They hold the stone identically but read as four deliberate geometric marks against the curve of an oval, which gives a plain solitaire a defined modern edge.

Why does the band taper?
A shank that narrows toward the head draws the eye upward into the stone and makes the diamond look larger by comparison. It also puts less metal directly beside the oval, which keeps the outline clean.

Does an oval look bigger than a round of the same weight?
Generally yes. An oval spreads its weight across a longer surface, presenting more face up area than a round of identical carat, and the elongated outline flatters the finger.

Is a plain solitaire easy to pair with a wedding band?
It is the easiest of all. There is no pave to line up and the shank is straight where a band meets it, so almost any wedding ring sits flush.
