An organic, scattered band

The accents are in several sizes and are placed individually, each in its own small setting flush with the metal. The result is a band with a natural, irregular sparkle that catches the light from many angles as the hand moves. It has the delicacy of nature inspired jewellery without any leaves or flowers, just light scattered across gold.

Around a third of a carat of small diamonds is spread across the band, enough to glitter clearly but never to compete with the oval in the centre.

The oval brilliant

An oval carries brilliant faceting in an elongated outline. It looks larger for its carat weight than a round because more of its surface faces up, and it lengthens the finger. A well proportioned oval, like the ones we choose, keeps any darker bow tie across its centre soft and small.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Yellow gold makes the scattered stones look like stars on a warm sky, white gold gives a frosted, icy look, and rose gold is soft and romantic. 10K is the hardest alloy, 14K is the everyday balance, and 18K is the richest colour but the softest metal. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. Each scattered accent is placed and set by hand, so the pattern on your ring is individual, and the ring is finished for your carat weight and finger size. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. The accents are set flush with the metal, so a quick brush along the band and under the head is all it needs. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight. The scattered accents are matched to the same grade.

Will my ring look exactly like the photos? Very close. Because the accents are placed by hand, the pattern varies slightly from ring to ring, which is part of its charm.

Do the flush set stones catch? No. They sit level with the metal surface.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes. The accents are flush and the head is raised.

Can it be resized? Within limits. A section at the base of the band is kept free of stones for adjustment.
