Sparkle from every angle

Look down at this ring and you see a clean oval above two bright shoulders. Look across it and you see the hidden halo as well, a ring of light around the collar beneath the stone. Of our oval designs it has the most diamond on it, placed where it adds sparkle without changing the shape of the oval from above.

That is the difference from a standard halo, which surrounds the oval and makes it look rounder and larger. Here the oval keeps its elongated outline and its finger lengthening effect, and the sparkle is added around it rather than on top of it.

The oval

An oval is a brilliant cut stretched along one axis. It faces up around ten percent larger than a round of the same weight and lengthens the look of the finger. A well cut oval shows little or none of the dark bow tie across its middle, and we reject stones where it is pronounced.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. White metal turns the pave and hidden halo into one continuous line of light. Yellow and rose gold frame each small stone and give the ring warmth. 10K is the hardest alloy, 14K is the everyday balance, and 18K is the richest colour but the softest metal. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The hidden halo is set into the collar first, the oval is seated above it, and the pave is raised by hand along both shoulders. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Brush around the collar from underneath and along both shoulders. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth, and take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight. The accents are matched to the same grade.

How is this different from your oval pave ring? It adds a hidden halo beneath the stone, so the side view sparkles as well as the shoulders.

And from the oval hidden halo ring? That design keeps the band plain. This one adds pave down both shoulders.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes. Nothing projects sideways at band level.

Can it be resized? Yes. The lower shank is plain.
