An oval cut lab grown diamond held by four double tipped claws on a plain polished band. Each claw splits into two fine points at the stone, so the ring grips at eight places using no more metal than a conventional four claw head. On an oval that matters more than it does on a round. An oval has no corners, only a continuous curve, and a single broad claw sits awkwardly across it while two narrow points follow the curve cleanly and distribute pressure more evenly along the girdle. The visual effect is a head that looks finer and more detailed while actually holding the stone more securely. Everything else is left plain so the outline of the oval reads without interruption. With a plain band the metal colour carries the entire look rather than framing pave. Yellow gold gives a warm outline that emphasises the oval silhouette, white gold nearly disappears so the stone dominates, rose gold softens the whole ring. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K, which is worth having on split tips because they are finer than solid claws.

What is a double tipped claw?
Each claw divides into two fine points where it meets the stone rather than ending in a single solid tip. It holds at eight places instead of four, covers less of the diamond, and makes a decorative feature of what is normally just structure.

Why does it suit an oval particularly?
An oval is a continuous curve with no corners to grip. Two narrow points follow that curve more accurately than one wide claw and spread the pressure better along the girdle, which is the part of the stone most at risk from a poorly fitted setting.

Are split tips more fragile?
Each tip is finer than a solid claw, so we recommend the annual check we include free for life. In exchange you get more contact points and a lighter looking head. For someone very hard on jewellery we can make solid tips instead.

Does an oval look bigger than a round of the same weight?
Generally yes. An oval spreads its weight across a longer surface, presenting more face up area than a round of identical carat, and the elongated outline flatters the finger.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
