Why double claws

A standard solitaire uses four single claws. A double claw setting splits each into a pair of slimmer claws set side by side. Each claw can be finer because it shares the load, so less metal covers the diamond while the stone is held at eight points instead of four. If one claw is ever knocked, its partner still holds that corner.

Visually, double claws give the head a lighter, more detailed look. On an oval they frame the stone evenly along its length and read as a jeweller's detail rather than simple hardware.

The hidden halo

Beneath the stone, a delicate hidden halo runs around the collar. It is subtle by design, a glint in profile rather than a full band of sparkle, so the ring stays quiet and elegant from every angle. From above you see only the oval and its doubled claws.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. White metal keeps the double claws almost invisible around the stone, while yellow and rose gold make them a visible detail. 10K is the hardest alloy, 14K is the everyday balance, and 18K is the richest colour but the softest metal. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. Each pair of claws is shaped by hand to the outline of your oval, the hidden halo is set first, and the ring is finished for your carat weight and finger size. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Brush around the collar and between the claw pairs, where soap can sit. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth, and take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight. The IGI report in the box states both grades.

Do double claws hide more of the stone? No. Each claw is finer, so the total metal over the diamond is about the same as four single claws.

Are they more secure? Yes. The stone is held at eight points, and each corner keeps a claw even if one is damaged.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes. The band is plain and nothing projects at band level.

Can it be resized? Yes, freely.
