There is nothing standing proud to catch on a jumper or a pocket, nothing to bend out of alignment, and no gap where the stone could work loose, so a bezel is the most secure and the lowest maintenance way to set a diamond. It is also the cleanest looking. The metal outline traces the oval exactly and gives the stone a defined edge, which reads as modern and architectural rather than traditional. A bezel places metal in direct contact with the whole edge of the stone, so the metal colour affects the diamond more here than in any claw setting. White gold keeps the oval reading completely colourless. Yellow and rose gold cast a warm outline that emphasises the shape. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and resists denting on a bezel rim.

Frequently asked questions

Is a bezel setting more secure than claws?
Yes. The stone is held around its entire circumference rather than at four or six points, and there is nothing that can bend or snag. It is the setting jewellers recommend for people who work with their hands, exercise in their ring, or simply do not want to think about it.

Does a bezel hide part of the diamond?
The rim covers the very outer edge, but it also adds a bright metal outline that extends the visible shape, so most people find the head reads as large or larger overall. The gallery underneath is left open so light still enters from below.

Does a bezel setting suit an oval?
Particularly well. The rim follows the curve of the oval in one unbroken line, which emphasises the elongated shape and its slimming effect on the finger.

Is it easy to clean?
Easier than pave or claw settings. There are no small crevices around beads or under prongs for soap and dust to collect in, so a rinse and a soft brush is usually enough.
