An oval laboratory grown diamond framed by a halo of small diamonds, with ornate Art Deco inspired shoulders set with more diamonds leading down into a pave band. The Art Deco shoulders

Art Deco jewellery is defined by geometry: fans, steps and symmetrical motifs, usually glittering with small diamonds. Here that language is used on the shoulders, where a small decorative cluster sits on each side of the halo before the band continues in pave. From the top, the ring has a distinctive, almost crown like silhouette; from the side, the openwork lets light into the diamonds from every angle.

How it differs from our other oval vintage halos

Our filigree halo uses lace like openwork, our compass halo flares into four points, and our milgrain halo puts its detail into a scalloped band. This one carries its decoration on geometric Art Deco shoulders.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Rose gold gives the ornate shoulders a romantic glow, white gold the platinum look of true Deco pieces, and yellow gold a rich antique warmth. 10K is the hardest alloy, 14K is the everyday balance, and 18K is the richest colour but the softest metal. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The halo is built around your oval, the shoulders are shaped and finished by hand, and every accent is set under a microscope. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Brush gently around the halo and through the shoulders. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight. The accents are matched to the same grade.

Is this a genuine antique? No. It is newly made to order in an Art Deco inspired style.

Does the halo make the stone look bigger? Yes, by roughly half a size, and the shoulders add further presence.

Will a wedding band sit flush? A curved or notched band sits best alongside.

Can it be resized? Within limits. A plain section at the base allows adjustment.
