Round accents against a step cut

The contrast is the point. An emerald cut flashes slowly in broad planes; small round brilliants sparkle quickly. Grouping the rounds tight against the corners of the step cut sets the two behaviours side by side, and makes the centre stone look calmer than it would alone.

Three a side, then nothing

The accents stop as soon as the centre stone is past, leaving the rest of the shank plain. It keeps small stones away from the underside of the finger where they take most wear, and it makes resizing straightforward.

Why the grade matters on this shape

A step cut is rows of long parallel facets, a large open table, and a clear view straight into the stone. There is no brilliant faceting to hide behind, which is why we set only E colour, VVS2 diamonds here.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold, but every metal is made to order and priced above. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Every accent is matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. Each trio is laid out against the measured centre stone, and the accents are set last so they sit tight against the corner claws without crowding them. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

Some photographs show this ring with stacking bands or worn alongside another ring. Those pieces are separate and are not included. The ring box shown is our standard packaging and comes with every order.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, working into each trio from underneath and behind the centre stone. An open table shows dust faster than a brilliant does, so clean this one weekly. An emerald cut has open corners, so avoid knocking it against hard edges. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? The centre stone and every accent are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on all metals and all carat weights.

Does the carat weight include the accents? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre emerald cut. The shoulder trios are in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Close, and closer than with full pave, since the accents stop well before the back. A slightly shaped band tucks under the trios.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back where the band is plain. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.

Can I have a different centre shape? Yes. These trios suit a radiant or an asscher just as well. Tell us when you order.
