Elongated Cushion Cut Lab Grown Diamond Ring on a Wide French Pave Shank

An elongated cushion cut lab grown diamond in four claws on a broad band set with French pave, the accents noticeably larger than ordinary melee and each sitting in a V shaped seat cut down through the metal. Seen from the side, a row of small triangles of open air runs beneath the stones.

That V is the difference between French pave and ordinary pave, and it is worth more than it sounds. In a standard pave setting each stone sits in a round drilled hole with metal directly beneath its pavilion, which blocks any light trying to enter from below and reflects nothing useful back. In French pave the setter cuts a V shaped channel underneath the row, removing the metal from behind the girdle entirely. Two things follow. Light can now pass through the accent from below as well as above, so each small stone behaves more like a solitaire and less like a chip embedded in gold. And the two angled walls of the V act as mirrors either side of every stone, throwing light back up through the pavilion at the same time. On a wide band carrying large accents, as here, the effect is obvious: the shank returns nearly as much light per square millimetre as the centre stone does.

Band details

The shank is deliberately wide, which is what allows the accents to be sized up rather than reduced to melee. The V channel runs beneath the set section and the lower half of the band is left solid and plain for strength and comfort.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. White gold is shown in the photographs. For a wide band we recommend 14K or 18K gold over sterling silver, since the extra width means more metal to keep straight over years of wear.

Frequently asked questions

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It is carbon in the same crystal structure as a mined diamond, with the same hardness and the same optical properties, graded on the same scales.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

What is French pave
Pave set over a V shaped channel cut beneath the stones. Removing the metal behind each girdle lets light through from below and turns the channel walls into reflectors.

Is French pave harder to make
Yes. The V has to be cut accurately along the whole run before any stone is set, and a mistake cannot be filled in afterwards. It is the reason it costs more than standard pave.

Does a wide band suit every hand
Wide bands shorten the apparent length of a finger slightly. If you have shorter fingers and want the same setting, tell us and we will narrow the shank and scale the accents accordingly.

Can this ring be resized
Within a moderate range, working in the plain lower half of the shank.

How long does the ring take to make
Each ring is made to order. French pave is slow work, so production usually takes fourteen to eighteen working days before dispatch.
