Elongated Cushion Cut Lab Grown Diamond Ring on a Whisper Thin Band with Sparse Accents

An elongated cushion cut lab grown diamond on a band drawn as fine as the workshop will make it, with a handful of very small accents set at wide intervals along the shoulders. There is more plain metal than stone on the band, and far more skin than metal on the finger.

This is the least jewellery that can carry a stone of this size, and the argument for it is longevity rather than looks. Every set stone in a ring is a point of maintenance: a seat that can wear, a bead that can loosen, a place where dirt collects and where a knock is transmitted into the metal. A pave shank carrying sixty accents has sixty of those points, and over twenty years of daily wear a proportion of them will need attention. A band with six accents has six. Nothing else about the ring changes, but the amount of it that can go wrong falls by an order of magnitude, and the plain metal between the stones can be polished back to new indefinitely in a way a densely set surface cannot. The visual consequence follows from the same fact: with almost nothing on the band, the centre stone has no competition at all.

Band details

The shank is drawn to the finest section we will build under a stone of this weight, thickened slightly where it meets the head and tapering below. For four and five carat centre stones we recommend 14K or 18K gold rather than sterling silver.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. The photographs show a warm gold, which on a band this fine reads as a line of light rather than as a ring.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It is carbon in the same crystal structure as a mined diamond, with the same hardness and the same optical properties, graded on the same scales.

Is a band this fine strong enough
Yes, when the metal is placed correctly. We thicken the shank where it meets the head, which is where a thin band actually fails, and recommend gold over silver for the largest carat weights.

What is an elongated cushion
A cushion cut with a length to width ratio above about 1.20, so it reads as a soft cornered rectangle and covers more of the finger than a square cushion of the same weight.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, easily. Most of the band is plain metal.

How long does the ring take to make
Each ring is made to order. Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days before dispatch.
