An elongated cushion cut lab grown diamond in four claws over a hidden halo, on a slim plain band. The cushion is the softest of the rectangular cuts. Its corners are rounded rather than cut off, so where an emerald or radiant reads as sharp and architectural, a cushion reads as gentle, and the crushed ice faceting beneath scatters light in small bright fragments rather than broad flashes. Cutting it long rather than square keeps the softness but adds the finger lengthening effect of an elongated stone, which is why the elongated cushion has become the shape people choose when a round feels too ordinary and an emerald feels too severe. Band details

A slim round band with a high polish, unbroken all the way around and set with no stones. Kept deliberately narrow so the cushion looks as wide as possible against it. The only accent diamonds are the hidden halo inside the basket.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, warms the soft outline of the cushion and suits its antique character. White gold and sterling silver make the stone read colder and brighter. Rose gold is the softest of the three.

What is an elongated cushion cut?
A rectangle with rounded corners and a brilliant faceting pattern, sometimes called a pillow cut. Elongated means it is cut longer than it is wide, which flatters the finger and gives more spread than a square cushion of the same weight.

How does a cushion differ from a radiant?
A radiant has cut corners and hard edges. A cushion has rounded corners and softer curves. The radiant looks geometric, the cushion looks antique, and they scatter light differently as a result.

What is crushed ice?
The faceting style of many modern cushions, which returns light as many small bright fragments rather than a few large flashes. It sparkles constantly under movement rather than flashing in defined patterns.

What is a hidden halo?
A row of small diamonds set into the basket beneath the centre stone, facing outward instead of upward. Invisible from above, it lights the profile and lifts the head slightly so a wedding band can sit alongside.

Is a cushion good for daily wear?
Yes, one of the best. Rounded corners have no fragile points to chip, unlike a princess or marquise.

What is the difference between a lab grown and a mined diamond?
Only where it was made. A lab grown diamond is carbon in the same crystal structure with the same hardness, refractive index and grading scales.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond is chemically and optically the same as a mined one, graded on the same scales by the same laboratories, at a fraction of the price. On a plain setting almost the entire price is the stone, which is what makes a VVS2 E colour elongated cushion at 4 or 5 carat possible. It is grown rather than excavated, so there is no mining involved and the origin is never in question.
