Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%An elongated cushion cut lab grown diamond in four claws on a fine shank pave set with small round diamonds. The stone sits low, the band is narrow, and there is nothing else in the design.
An elongated cushion is defined by its length to width ratio, and that single number is worth more attention than carat weight when you are choosing one. At around 1.10 to 1.20 the stone still reads as a soft square. Past about 1.30 it becomes clearly rectangular and starts to lengthen the finger. Beyond 1.50 it looks closer to a radiant. Two stones of identical weight sitting at opposite ends of that range look like different shapes on the hand, which is why we quote the ratio rather than leaving you to judge from a photograph.
The shank is fine and rounded on the inside, pave set along its upper length. Keeping it narrow is what allows a large cushion to look as wide as it does, because the eye has almost no metal to measure the stone against.
Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. White gold is shown here and is the usual choice for a high colour stone, since a white setting adds no warmth to the diamond. Yellow gold gives a classic contrast and outlines each pave stone. Rose gold sits between the two.
This ring is available in a full range of US sizes. Select your size at checkout. If you are unsure of the size, contact us and we will help you measure at home before the ring is made.
We make every ring to order, which means the design can be adjusted. Ask us for a specific length to width ratio, a hidden halo, a plain shank, a wider band, an east to west orientation or a matching wedding band. Write to us through https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and a member of our team will reply with drawings and a quote.
What is a length to width ratio?
The length of the stone divided by its width. On a cushion, around 1.10 reads as a soft square, past 1.30 it becomes clearly rectangular, and beyond 1.50 it starts to resemble a radiant. It affects the look far more than a small difference in carat weight does.
Can I request a particular ratio?
Yes. Tell us whether you want the stone closer to square or clearly elongated and we will select accordingly before the ring is made.
How does a cushion cut sparkle?
Its larger facets give broad slow flashes of light rather than the fine rapid scintillation of a round brilliant. Many people describe the effect as candlelight.
Why is the pave kept small?
So it supports the centre stone instead of competing with it. Larger accents would shorten the apparent length of the cushion.
Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. A lab grown diamond has the same carbon crystal structure, hardness, refractive index and fire as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled environment rather than pulled from the ground.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included with every order at no additional cost.
Can this ring be resized?
Yes. The base of the shank is left free of stones for exactly that reason.
A lab grown diamond gives you the same optical and physical properties as a mined stone at a far better price for the size and quality. Because the growth conditions are controlled, high color and high clarity stones like the E VVS2 used here are available in large carat weights that would be rare and costly in mined goods. It is also a traceable choice, with a known origin and no mining footprint.
