That restraint suits this shape particularly well, because a cushion has large facets that produce a broad chunky sparkle often described as crushed ice, and that effect is easiest to read when nothing else on the ring is competing for attention. Because the band is bare, the metal colour carries the whole look here rather than acting as a setting for pave. White gold keeps the cushion reading coolest, yellow and rose gold lean into the antique character the shape already has. Frequently asked questions

What does crushed ice sparkle mean?
It describes the way a cushion cut breaks light into many small shifting flashes rather than a few large ones, similar to sunlight on broken ice. Some cushions are cut for this effect, others for larger chunkier flashes. Both are correct, and it is worth deciding which you prefer.

What is the difference between a cushion and an elongated cushion?
A standard cushion is close to square with rounded corners. An elongated cushion is stretched into a rectangle while keeping those soft corners, which makes it run along the finger and slims the hand the way an oval does.

Why choose a plain band?
It is the most practical option. No small stones to loosen, nothing to snag, and it is the easiest style to resize or repolish years later. It also keeps all attention on the centre stone.

What is a hidden halo?
A ring of small diamonds around the base of the centre stone, facing outward instead of upward. From above you see only the cushion. From the side it shows as a bright collar underneath.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
