A cushion cut has larger facets than a round brilliant and can pick up warmth from the metal around it, so white gold keeps it reading coolest. Yellow and rose gold lean into the antique character of the shape, which is why warm metals are the traditional pairing for cushions. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and holds pave more securely.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a cushion and an elongated cushion?
A standard cushion is roughly square with rounded corners. An elongated cushion is stretched into a rectangle while keeping those rounded corners. The elongated version runs along the finger and has a slimming effect that the square version does not.

Is a cushion cut as sparkly as a round?
Close, and different in character. A cushion has larger facets, so it produces broader, more visible flashes of light, often described as a crushed ice or chunky sparkle rather than the fine glitter of a round brilliant.

Why is it called a cushion cut?
Because the soft square outline with rounded corners looks like a pillow. It is one of the oldest diamond shapes still in use, developed long before the modern round brilliant existed, which is why it reads as antique.

What is a hidden halo?
A ring of small diamonds set around the base of the centre stone, facing outward instead of upward. From above you see only the cushion. From the side it shows as a bright collar under the stone.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.

Do I get a certificate?

How long does it take to make?
