What is an elongated cushion cut

A cushion cut is a square or rectangular stone with rounded corners, named because the outline resembles a pillow. An elongated cushion is cut to a longer ratio rather than a true square, so it stretches along the finger like an oval while keeping the soft corners and larger facets that make cushions look warm rather than icy. It is a good middle ground for anyone torn between an oval and a more geometric shape.

What is a hidden halo

A hidden halo is a ring of small diamonds set horizontally around the basket underneath the centre stone, facing outward rather than upward. From directly above you do not see it, so the cushion keeps its clean rounded outline. From the side and from the wearer's own eye level it catches light and makes the stone appear to float above the finger.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond

Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index and the same fire and brilliance as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled laboratory over a few weeks instead of underground over billions of years. No jeweller can tell the difference by eye, only specialist equipment reading growth patterns can separate the two.

How is a cushion different from a radiant cut

Both are squared shapes with brilliant faceting, but the corners tell them apart. A cushion has softly rounded corners that make it look like a pillow, while a radiant has straight, trimmed corners that give it a sharper geometric outline. A cushion reads softer and more antique, a radiant more modern.

Does this ring come with a certificate

Yes. Every ring ships with a free IGI certificate for the centre stone. IGI is the International Gemological Institute, one of the largest independent diamond grading laboratories in the world. The certificate confirms the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade and the laboratory grown origin. There is no extra charge for the certificate.

Are cushion cut diamonds durable

Very. The rounded corners of a cushion are its strongest feature, because there are no sharp points to chip, which is the main vulnerability of shapes like the princess or marquise. Combined with prongs that sit over the widest part of the stone, this is one of the more forgiving shapes for daily wear.

What does E colour VVS2 actually mean

E colour is the second highest grade on the diamond colour scale and sits inside the colourless range, so the diamond looks bright white with no warm or yellow tint. VVS2 means very very slightly included, the second highest clarity tier. Any inclusions are so small that a trained grader needs 10x magnification to find them and they are completely invisible to the naked eye.

A lab grown diamond gives you a materially identical stone for a fraction of the price of a mined equivalent, which is what makes a 4 carat or 5 carat elongated cushion centre realistic on a normal budget.
