A cushion cut lab grown diamond in four claws on a fine polished band, with no halo, no pave and no accent stones of any kind.

The cushion is the oldest brilliant outline still in regular use. It descends from the old mine cut, which was shaped by hand to follow the natural octahedral form of the rough and lit by candles rather than daylight, and it kept the rounded corners and generous depth that suited those conditions. Modern cushions are cut with the same soft square silhouette but with faceting worked out for electric light, so they hold the antique outline and produce the broad rolling flashes people associate with older stones while still being bright. Presented alone on a fine band there is nothing to date the ring in either direction, and nothing between the eye and the diamond. The claws are slim and rounded, the basket is open so light enters from beneath the pavilion, and the band is narrow enough that the stone remains the widest point on the finger.

They share the same outline. An old mine cut was shaped by hand with a small table and a large culet, while a modern cushion is cut to measured proportions for electric light.
