A cushion cut lab grown diamond in four claws over a concealed halo, on a plain shank that rises in a shallow cathedral curve and tapers as it approaches the head.

A cathedral shank is the arch that carries the head, and it is one of the oldest structural ideas in ring making because it does two jobs at once. It supports the setting from beneath rather than only from the sides, which means the basket can be lighter, and it visually lifts the stone by giving the eye a curve to follow up to it. Tapering the shank as it climbs makes the arch look springy rather than heavy, so a large cushion appears to sit on something delicate. The shank is left completely plain because the concealed halo already supplies the only small stones on the ring, running around the basket wall directly beneath the girdle where they are invisible from above and clearly visible from the side. The result reads as a plain solitaire from directly overhead and as a considerably richer ring from every other angle.

Band details

The shank rises in a shallow cathedral curve to meet the basket and tapers slightly as it climbs. It carries no stones and the inside is comfort rounded.

From the side and at an angle, yes. From directly above it disappears beneath the cushion.
