A cushion cut lab grown diamond on a band set with marquise shaped accents spaced apart along the shoulders. Distance setting leaves polished metal between each accent rather than running them shoulder to shoulder, and using marquise stones instead of rounds gives the band a directional rhythm, each little navette pointing along the finger toward the centre stone. Against that the cushion sits soft and rounded, which is the contrast the design is built on, angular accents leading to a pillow shaped centre. Every diamond is a laboratory grown diamond, identical in carbon structure, hardness and brilliance to a mined diamond, graded E colour and VVS2 clarity. What is a distance set band

It is a band where each accent diamond is set on its own with a deliberate gap of metal on either side, rather than bead set tightly against its neighbours as in pave. The band sparkles as a series of distinct points instead of one continuous line, it stays slim on the finger, and it collects less dirt because there are fewer beads and channels to trap it.

Why marquise accents rather than round

Because they have a direction. A round accent looks the same from every angle, whereas a marquise points, and setting them along the shoulders draws the eye toward the centre stone. It also echoes a shape used elsewhere in fine jewellery rather than defaulting to the most common accent cut.

What is a cushion cut

A cushion cut is a square or rectangular stone with rounded corners, named because the outline resembles a pillow. Its facets are larger and more open than those of a modern round brilliant, which gives it a softer, warmer sparkle often described as candlelit rather than icy.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond

Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index and the same fire and brilliance as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled laboratory over a few weeks instead of underground over billions of years. No jeweller can tell the difference by eye, only specialist equipment reading growth patterns can separate the two.

Can this band be resized

Yes, and more easily than a continuous pave or eternity band, because there is plain polished metal between the accents for a jeweller to work with. Tell us if you expect your size to change and we will position the accents to leave room at the base of the shank.

Does this ring come with a certificate

Yes. Every ring ships with a free IGI certificate for the centre stone. IGI is the International Gemological Institute, one of the largest independent diamond grading laboratories in the world. The certificate confirms the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade and the laboratory grown origin. There is no extra charge for the certificate.

What does E colour VVS2 actually mean

E colour is the second highest grade on the diamond colour scale and sits inside the colourless range, so the diamond looks bright white with no warm or yellow tint. VVS2 means very very slightly included, the second highest clarity tier. Any inclusions are so small that a trained grader needs 10x magnification to find them and they are completely invisible to the naked eye.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond gives you a materially identical stone for a fraction of the price of a mined equivalent, which is what makes a 4 carat or 5 carat cushion centre realistic on a normal budget. Matched marquise accents in small sizes would also be slow and costly to source as mined stones. Because the origin of every stone is documented from the moment it is grown, a lab grown diamond is conflict free by definition. Growing a diamond also avoids the open pit excavation, land disruption and water use that mining a comparable stone requires.
