What is a half bezel setting

A half bezel, sometimes called a partial bezel, wraps metal around only part of the stone, leaving the remaining edges open. It gives most of the protection and the low, flush look of a full bezel while showing more of the diamond and letting more light in from the open sides.

What is a cushion cut

A cushion cut is a square or rectangular stone with rounded corners, named because the outline resembles a pillow. Its facets are larger and more open than those of a modern round brilliant, which gives it a softer, warmer sparkle often described as candlelit rather than icy.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond

Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index and the same fire and brilliance as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled laboratory over a few weeks instead of underground over billions of years. No jeweller can tell the difference by eye, only specialist equipment reading growth patterns can separate the two.

Is a half bezel as secure as a full bezel

Almost. A full bezel is the most secure setting there is because nothing is exposed. A half bezel covers the sides where a stone is most likely to be struck and leaves only the remaining edges open. In practice it is considerably more secure than prongs and needs less maintenance.

Are cushion cut diamonds durable

Very. The rounded corners of a cushion are its strongest feature, because there are no sharp points to chip, which is the main vulnerability of shapes like the princess or marquise. Combined with a half bezel over the sides, this is one of the more forgiving designs for daily wear.

Does this ring come with a certificate

Yes. Every ring ships with a free IGI certificate for the centre stone. IGI is the International Gemological Institute, one of the largest independent diamond grading laboratories in the world. The certificate confirms the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade and the laboratory grown origin. There is no extra charge for the certificate.

What does E colour VVS2 actually mean

E colour is the second highest grade on the diamond colour scale and sits inside the colourless range, so the diamond looks bright white with no warm or yellow tint. VVS2 means very very slightly included, the second highest clarity tier. Any inclusions are so small that a trained grader needs 10x magnification to find them and they are completely invisible to the naked eye.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond gives you a materially identical stone for a fraction of the price of a mined equivalent, which is what makes a 4 carat or 5 carat cushion centre realistic on a normal budget. That matters more here than on most designs, because a solitaire has nowhere to hide, the size and quality of the single stone is the whole ring. Because the origin of every stone is documented from the moment it is grown, a lab grown diamond is conflict free by definition. Growing a diamond also avoids the open pit excavation, land disruption and water use that mining a comparable stone requires.
