What fluorescence is
Fluorescence is a soft glow some diamonds give off under ultraviolet (UV) light — most often blue. It's a natural characteristic, graded from none to strong.
Does it matter?
For most stones, fluorescence has little or no visible effect in normal lighting. In some cases faint-to-medium blue fluorescence can even make a slightly tinted diamond look whiter. Very strong fluorescence can occasionally give a hazy look, but that's uncommon.
