Resizing a Ring Bought Overseas: How to Do It in the US
Your ring was made abroad, but it needs a size change now. Here's how to get it done well by a US jeweller โ and what to check first.

Short answer
Most plain and partly set rings bought overseas can be resized by a competent US jeweller. First check with the original maker whether local work affects the warranty. Give the jeweller the ring's written specification โ metal and karat, stone type and settings โ so they match the metal exactly. Full eternity bands generally can't be resized, and moissanite should be identified correctly before any heat is used.
A resize isn't complicated, but it's a job where details matter: using the right alloy, protecting the stones from heat, and keeping any engraving intact. Giving a local jeweller the right information makes all the difference.

Two things we'd ask any jeweller resizing one of our rings to know. First, the karat: added metal must match, or a lighter or darker line appears at the join. Second, the stone: moissanite is a different material from diamond, and some diamond testers read it as diamond โ a jeweller who knows exactly what's in the ring can plan the heat and protection properly. A short written specification answers both before the job starts, and it's the best reason to keep the one that came with your ring.
