A marquise cut lab grown diamond in a vintage styled solitaire setting, offered here as a promise ring as much as an engagement ring. The marquise has a long association with this role. It was the shape of choice for eighteenth century French court rings and has stayed in and out of fashion ever since, which is why it reads as heritage rather than trend. At the lower end of the carat range this makes a substantial promise or milestone ring without the weight of a full engagement piece, and at 4 or 5 carat it becomes something considerably more serious. This ring has no side stones. It is a true solitaire, which is part of what gives it the period character. If you would like accent stones, a hidden halo or pave, we make those versions too.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold is the most period appropriate choice and the one that makes the vintage character read clearly. Rose gold gives a softer, more Edwardian feel. White gold pushes it modern. For a ring worn daily 14K is harder than 18K and holds the V prongs better over time.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a marquise vintage rather than modern?
Mostly the setting and the metal. The cut itself is centuries old, so a marquise in warm gold with a simple solitaire head reads as heritage, while the same stone in white gold with pave reads as contemporary. This one is styled the first way.

Is a promise ring different from an engagement ring?
Only in intent. There is no structural difference and no rule about carat weight or setting. Many people buy a smaller version of a design now and upgrade the centre stone later, which we can do for you.

Does a solitaire make the stone look smaller?
No, the opposite. With nothing else on the ring the eye has only the marquise to look at, and a marquise already shows more of its weight face up than most cuts. A solitaire is the most honest presentation of a stone's real size.

Are the points protected?
Yes. Both tips sit under V prongs capping the thinnest part of the stone, which is standard on every marquise we build.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.

Do I get a certificate?
Yes. A free IGI certificate for the centre stone comes with every order, listing colour, clarity, cut grade and carat weight.

How long does it take to make?
