A round brilliant lab grown diamond held in four claws above a hidden halo, on a knife edge band with pave set into the sloping faces. A knife edge shank is not flat on top. It rises to a ridge along its centre line and falls away on both sides, and here the small diamonds are set into those angled faces rather than across a flat surface, so the light they return changes as the hand turns and a fine polished line of gold runs unbroken along the crest between them. Beneath the centre stone a hidden halo lifts the round and fills the gap at the girdle. From above the ring reads as a simple four claw solitaire on a slim pave band, and every detail that makes it unusual is only visible from an angle. The polished ridge along the crest of the knife edge is a line of pure metal, so the colour is visible right through the pave rather than hidden by it. Yellow and rose gold draw that line clearly, white gold lets the whole band read as diamond. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and keeps a knife edge crisp rather than rounding it off.

Frequently asked questions

What is a knife edge band?
A shank that rises to a ridge along its centre rather than being flat or domed on top, so it has two sloping faces meeting at a crest. It catches light along that edge and looks slimmer than a flat band of the same width.

How is pave set on a sloping face?
The stones are bead set into each angled side rather than across the top. Because the two rows face slightly away from each other, they catch light at different moments as the hand moves.

What is a hidden halo?
A ring of small diamonds set around the underside of the centre stone, below the girdle. It is invisible from above and only appears from the side, adding light where the setting would otherwise be solid metal.

Does a knife edge wear down?
The crest is the highest point of the band so it takes the most contact. In 14K it holds its edge well. In 18K, which is softer, the ridge will round off gradually over many years of daily wear.

Will a wedding band sit flush?
Not completely, because the knife edge is not a flat surface. A band with a matching knife edge profile pairs best and we can make one to match.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.

Do I get a certificate?
Yes. A free IGI certificate for the centre stone comes with every order, listing colour, clarity, cut grade and carat weight.
