A round brilliant lab grown diamond held in four claws, on a smooth domed band with accent diamonds set flush into its surface. Flush setting, sometimes called gypsy setting, sinks each small stone into a seat drilled into the metal and burnishes the surrounding gold over its edge, so the diamond sits level with the band rather than raised above it. Run your thumb along the shank and it feels completely smooth. That makes this the most hard wearing way to put stones into a band, because there are no beads or claws to catch, wear down or lift, and it is the reason flush setting is the traditional choice for rings that are never taken off. Flush setting surrounds each stone with an unbroken ring of polished metal, so the colour frames every accent individually rather than disappearing between them as it does in pave. Yellow and rose gold make each flush stone read as a bright point in a gold field, white gold blends them into the band. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and holds a burnished flush setting more firmly.

What is flush setting?
Each stone is sunk into a seat cut into the metal and the surrounding gold is burnished over its edge, so the diamond sits level with the surface of the band. It is also called gypsy setting.

Why choose flush set over pave?
Nothing protrudes. There are no beads or claws to snag on clothing, wear thin or lift, so it is the most durable way to set stones into a band and the usual choice for someone who works with their hands.

Does it sparkle less than pave?
A little, because less of each stone is exposed and light enters mainly through the table. What you gain is a band that stays looking new for far longer.

Can this ring be resized?
More easily than a pave band, since the flush stones sit in a limited section and the metal around them is solid rather than cut away.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Yes, unusually well. The band surface is completely smooth and the head sits low, so a flat band rests against it with nothing in the way.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
