Why a thin band

The width of a band changes how big the centre stone looks. On a fine band, a 2 carat round reads as bigger and brighter because there is less metal around it for the eye to measure it against. The pave here uses smaller stones than a standard pave band, set in a narrower line, so the band glitters without getting heavy.

This is the choice for anyone who wants sparkle all the way round but prefers a dainty, minimal look, and it pairs especially well with a slim wedding band stacked alongside.

The round brilliant

The round brilliant is the most precisely engineered diamond cut, with 57 or 58 facets set to return as much light as possible through the top of the stone. It is the brightest shape and the most versatile, and it suits every hand.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. On a thin band we suggest 14K or 10K gold for strength, since a narrower shank benefits from a harder alloy. 18K is the richest colour but the softest metal. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The fine pave is set under a microscope bead by bead, and the ring is finished for your carat weight and finger size. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Brush gently along the pave. A thin band is best kept away from heavy lifting and hard knocks, so take it off for the gym and gardening.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight. The pave is matched to the same grade.

Is a thin band strong enough for a large stone? Yes. The shank is thickened under the head where the weight sits, and we recommend 10K or 14K gold for the larger carat sizes.

How is this different from your standard pave ring? The band and the pave stones are finer, for a more delicate look.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, and a thin band stacks especially neatly.

Can it be resized? Within limits. A plain section at the base allows adjustment.
