A round brilliant lab grown diamond held in six squared claws on a plain tapered band. The claw treatment is the whole point of this design. Six is the traditional count for a round stone, but finishing each one as a flat square rather than a rounded tip turns what is usually an invisible technical detail into the visible feature of the ring. Six small blocks of metal sit evenly around the circle of the diamond, drawing a hexagonal rhythm against the curve. The band tapers as it rises to meet them and carries no stones at all, so nothing distracts from that arrangement. E colour, VVS2 clarity, free IGI certificate. Metal options

Squared claws are a metal detail rather than a stone one, so they show most clearly in yellow or rose gold where six blocks of colour sit against the diamond. White gold softens them into the outline of the round. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and keeps square claw edges crisp for longer.

Frequently asked questions

What are squared claws?
Claws finished with a flat square top rather than a rounded tip. They hold the stone identically but read as small geometric blocks against the circle of a round brilliant, which gives a very traditional design an unexpected edge.

Why six claws?
Six points of contact share the pressure around the girdle rather than concentrating it at four, which is the most secure way to hold a large round stone. It is also the profile most people recognise as a classic solitaire.

Do square claws cover more of the diamond?
Very slightly, because a flat top sits across the crown rather than curling over a single point. The difference is small and most people choose them for the look rather than against it.
