Why the band is curved

A cluster ring spreads across the finger, so a straight wedding band cannot sit against it without leaving a wedge of daylight. This band is shaped to the outline of the cluster, dipping where the accents sit and rising where they do not. Worn together the two rings read as one piece. Worn apart, each still works on its own.

The scattered cluster

The accents are not arranged in a row. Round diamonds of two or three different sizes are mixed with small marquises set at varying angles, so the shoulders look gathered rather than engineered. The largest accents sit closest to the centre stone and they get smaller as they travel down the band, which funnels the eye inward.

Why a round centre

A round brilliant has fifty seven facets arranged to return as much light as possible straight back at the viewer. It is the brightest of all the cuts, and against a cluster of small stones that brightness is what keeps the centre clearly the centre rather than simply the biggest thing in a crowd.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Both rings are made in the same metal. Yellow gold is photographed here, and the warm metal showing between the scattered accents is a large part of why the cluster reads as organic. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the set at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Every accent on both rings is matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The wedding band is shaped against your finished engagement ring rather than to a standard template, which is the only way to get a curved band to sit truly flush. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Work the brush through the gaps between the cluster stones and along the join where the two rings meet, since that is where lotion collects. Take them off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Does the price include both rings? Yes. Every price on this page is for the engagement ring and the curved wedding band together.

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight. All accents are matched to the same grade.

Does the carat weight include the accents? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre round brilliant. The cluster accents and the band stones are in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Can I wear the engagement ring on its own? Yes. It is designed to work alone, and many customers wear the band only after the wedding.

Can it be resized? A little, on both rings. Because a curved band has to keep its alignment with the engagement ring, we would rather build to your size than alter it later.
