Round Cut Lab Grown Diamond Bezel Set Wave Engagement Ring with Pave in Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

The wave

The band does not run straight to the stone. It drops away on both sides into a soft V, then rises again to meet the bezel, so the ring has a visible peak. That shape does two useful things: it lets a curved wedding band nest into the dip, and it lifts the diamond visually without raising it physically off the finger.

Why one arm is paved

Setting only one side breaks the symmetry on purpose. The plain arm reads as a clean line of metal, the paved arm as a line of light, and because the ring is not symmetrical it looks different depending on which way your hand is turned. Paving both would have made it decorative; paving one makes it a design.

The bezel

A rim of metal follows the whole girdle of the round, holding it from every direction. Nothing projects, there are no claws to bend or catch, and the low profile suits a band that already has a strong shape of its own. For a small stone worn every day it is the most sensible setting there is.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Yellow gold is photographed here, and the contrast between a warm plain arm and a bright paved one is most visible in yellow or rose. 10K is the hardest alloy, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the deepest colour. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. The pave diamonds are matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The wave is formed to your finger size first, because the depth of the V changes with the circumference of the band, then the bezel is built around your particular stone and burnished down by hand. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Work along the paved arm and around the outside of the bezel. There are no claws to trap anything, so the rest is straightforward. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight. The pave is matched to the same grade.

Does the carat weight include the pave? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre round brilliant. The pave is in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it? A curved or chevron band nests into the dip of the wave very neatly. A straight band will leave a gap under the peak.

Can it be resized? Only a little, because the wave is shaped to a specific size and resizing changes the angle of the dip. Please measure carefully and we will build to your size.

Does a bezel make the stone look smaller? It covers the girdle, so the visible outline is marginally smaller than the stone itself. In exchange nothing can catch and nothing needs checking, which on a ring worn daily is usually the better trade.
