A round brilliant lab grown diamond in claws on a fine band, with marquise and round accents descending each shoulder and then stopping. They do not dwindle away into the metal. The last stone is a full sized one, and after it the band is simply plain.

How an accent run ends is a decision as real as how it begins, and most designs get it wrong by default. The instinct is to fade: make each stone slightly smaller until the smallest is barely visible, then let the band continue. The problem is that a fade has no edge, so the eye cannot tell where the decoration was meant to finish, and the shoulder looks as though the setter ran out of stones. Ending on a full sized accent creates a defined terminus instead. The eye reads a beginning, a middle and a deliberate stop, which is why old jewellery so often ends a shoulder abruptly rather than tapering it into nothing. It also leaves a clean length of plain shank, which is where the ring is resized and where it rests against a wedding band, so the decision earns its place practically as well as visually.

Band details
