A round brilliant lab grown diamond in four claws, with a small group of round accent diamonds set on each shoulder and clear polished metal between the groups and the head. The accents sit together as a pair of clusters rather than running continuously down the band.

Leaving a gap between the centre stone and the accents is a deliberate decision and it works on the same principle as the space around a picture on a wall. Run pave right up to the head and the eye reads the whole top of the ring as one bright mass, which makes the centre stone harder to separate from its surroundings. Pull the accents back a few millimetres and the diamond gets a margin of plain gold around it. The stone is isolated, its outline reads clearly, and the clusters become a second point of interest rather than an extension of the first.

Band details

The shank is slim and rounded with a high polish. The accent clusters sit low into its upper surface partway along each shoulder, and the rest of the band, including the section directly beside the head, is left plain.

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Yellow gold is shown here and warm metal is what makes the gaps read as deliberate space rather than as a missing row of stones. Rose gold does the same more softly. White gold and sterling silver reduce the contrast so the clusters float more quietly against the band.
