Radiant Cut Lab Grown Diamond Ring with Floating Accents on a Wire Thin Band

A radiant cut lab grown diamond in four claws on a band drawn as fine as gold will safely go, with two round accent diamonds set far out along each shoulder. The gaps between the stones are wider than the stones themselves, and the shank is so slender that from a few feet away the accents look as though they are hovering on their own.

That illusion is the entire point, and it depends on the band being thin rather than on the accents being large. The eye needs a reference to register metal at all. Reduce the shank below about one and a half millimetres and at conversational distance it stops reading as a ring and starts reading as a line, at which point anything set into it appears to float unsupported. Widen the same band by half a millimetre and the effect collapses, because you begin to see the band first and the stones second.

Band details

The shank is wire thin, round in section and highly polished, tapering very slightly as it rises toward the head. It is deliberately the lightest part of the ring, and everything about the proportion depends on it staying that way.

Metal options

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Yellow gold is shown here and the warm line of the shank makes the white accents separate clearly from it, which is what creates the floating look. Rose gold does the same slightly more softly. White gold and sterling silver blend metal and stone together, which is a quieter effect. For a band this fine we recommend 14K or 18K gold, which hold their shape better than silver over years of daily wear.

Ring size

This ring is available in a full range of US sizes. Select your size at checkout. If you are unsure of the size, contact us and we will help you measure at home before the ring is made.

Custom orders

We make every ring to order, which means the design can be adjusted. Ask us for more or fewer accents, tighter spacing, a heavier shank, a hidden halo, an east to west orientation, a different centre shape or a matching wedding band. Write to us through https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and a member of our team will reply with drawings and a quote.

Frequently asked questions

Why space the accents so widely?
Because a wide gap lets each stone read as a separate point of light rather than as part of a row, and on a very fine band it makes the accents look as though they are floating.

Is a wire thin band strong enough for daily wear?
In 10K, 14K and 18K gold, yes. Sterling silver is softer and a band this fine will bend more easily, so we suggest gold if the ring will never be taken off.

Does a thin band make the centre stone look bigger?
Noticeably. With almost no metal beside it the eye has nothing to measure the diamond against, so the same stone reads a size larger than it would on a wide shank.

What is the difference between a radiant and an emerald cut?
Both are rectangular with cropped corners, but a radiant is brilliant faceted underneath so it sparkles like a round, while an emerald cut is a step cut with a clear open table.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. A lab grown diamond has the same carbon crystal structure, hardness, refractive index and fire as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled environment rather than pulled from the ground.

Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included with every order at no additional cost.

Can this ring be resized?
Yes, though on a very fine shank we recommend confirming the size before we make it, since repeated adjustment is harder on a thin band than on a heavy one.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond gives you the same optical and physical properties as a mined stone at a far better price for the size and quality. Because the growth conditions are controlled, high color and high clarity stones like the E VVS2 used here are available in large carat weights that would be rare and costly in mined goods. It is also a traceable choice, with a known origin and no mining footprint.
