An elongated radiant cut lab grown diamond in a four claw setting with a hidden halo, on a shank carved with filigree scrollwork, edged in milgrain and set with pave along the top. This is a ring built for the person who looks at the side. From the front it reads as a clean elongated solitaire on a slim band. In profile the whole gallery opens up, hand pierced scroll patterns running down both sides of the shank, a beaded milgrain rim following every edge, a line of pave over the top of the band and a diamond set crossover where the shank meets the head. The style is Edwardian rather than Art Deco. Where Deco is geometric and hard edged, this is curved, openworked and lacy. Free IGI certificate for the centre stone. Band details

The shank is pierced with filigree scrollwork on both outer faces, so the metal is open rather than solid when seen from the side. Milgrain beading edges the scroll panels and follows the outline of the gallery. Round pave diamonds run along the top surface of the shank toward the head, and a diamond set crossover sits under the basket. The inner face of the band is left smooth for comfort.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. White gold, as photographed, is the closest to the platinum of the original Edwardian pieces and shows the milgrain and filigree most clearly. Yellow gold gives a warmer antique look. Rose gold is the softest of the three against skin.

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. Because filigree, milgrain and pave run around most of the shank, please order your correct size where possible. Resizing is possible but the pattern must be rebuilt at the join. Ask us for a free size guide if you are unsure.

Frequently asked questions

What is filigree?
Openwork metal, cut and pierced by hand so light passes through the gaps. In a ring like this it is worked into the sides of the shank as scroll or heart shaped curls, which is why the band looks lacy from the side and solid from above.

What is milgrain?
A row of very small metal beads pressed along an edge with a knurling tool. It softens hard outlines and catches light along every rim. Together with filigree it is the signature of Edwardian and early twentieth century jewellery.

What is an elongated radiant cut?
A radiant is a rectangle with cut corners and a brilliant faceting pattern underneath, so it has the outline of an emerald cut but the fire of a round. Elongated simply means it is cut longer than it is wide, which flatters the finger and makes the stone look larger.

What is a hidden halo?
A ring of small diamonds set into the basket beneath the centre stone, facing outward. Invisible from above, but it lights up the profile view, which suits a ring where the sides are the point.

Will the pave stones fall out?
Each pave stone sits in its own bead of raised metal, and we check every setting before shipping. We also offer a lifetime prong and pave check, so bring it back to us any time and we will tighten anything that has moved.

Do I get a certificate?
Yes. A free IGI certificate for the centre stone comes with every order, listing colour, clarity, cut and carat weight.

Is this comfortable for daily wear?
Yes. The filigree is on the outer faces only and the inside of the band is smooth and rounded, so nothing sharp sits against the finger.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond is chemically and optically the same as a mined one, graded on the same scales by the same laboratories, at a fraction of the price. That is what makes a VVS2 E colour elongated radiant at 4 or 5 carat achievable in a setting carrying this much handwork.
