Radiant Cut Lab Grown Diamond Hidden Halo Ring on an Alternating Accent Band in Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

Three layers of diamond, none of which crosses the outline of the centre stone: the halo works in profile, the band works face on, and the radiant is left entirely alone.

A hidden halo on a rectangular stone

On a radiant the halo has to be built as a rectangle with cropped corners, following the girdle exactly, which is considerably harder than ringing a round stone. Done properly it reads as a thin line of light beneath the diamond when the hand turns, and is invisible from above.

The band has a rhythm

Marquise, round, marquise, each in its own setting with gold showing between. It gives the shank movement rather than a uniform glitter, and the marquises set lengthways draw the eye along the finger towards the centre stone.

The radiant cut

A rectangle with cropped corners and brilliant style faceting inside: the outline of an emerald cut with the fire of a round. It is the brightest rectangular shape and the most forgiving, since busy faceting conceals more than a step cut can. We still set only E colour, VVS2 stones in it.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold, but every metal is made to order and priced above. A yellow band with a white metal hidden halo makes the small stones read brighter; tell us if you want it made that way. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Every accent is matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The halo is set into the basket before the head is joined to the band, because afterwards there is no access, and the band accents are spaced outwards from the centre so both shoulders match. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

Some photographs show this ring with stacking bands or worn alongside another ring. Those pieces are separate and are not included. The ring box shown is our standard packaging and comes with every order.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, brushing up into the hidden halo from below and around each band accent. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? The centre radiant and every accent are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on all metals and all carat weights.

Does the carat weight include the accents? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre radiant. The halo and band diamonds are in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Does the accent band go all the way round? It runs along the front and sides and stops before the back, which keeps stones out of the area that takes most wear and makes resizing straightforward.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Not perfectly, since the accents are raised. A shaped band solves it, and we will make one to match.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back where the band is plain. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.
