A halo with corners

Round halos are set in a continuous curve. A rectangular one turns a corner eight times, and the small stones have to line up at every turn or the border reads wavy. It is harder to set than a round halo and it is what gives this ring its framed, deco quality.

Brilliant faceting inside a frame

A radiant is a rectangle with brilliant style faceting: the outline of an emerald cut with the fire of a round. Surrounded by a halo of small brilliants, the whole top of the ring sparkles at the same speed, which is why a radiant halo looks livelier than an emerald cut in the same setting.

Raised on an open gallery

Look at the profile photographs and you can see straight through beneath the halo. The head stands clear of the band on an open frame, which lets light in from the sides and keeps a large halo from looking heavy on the finger.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold and in white metal, and every metal is made to order and priced above. A yellow band with a white metal halo makes the centre stone read larger; tell us if you want it made that way. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Every accent is matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The halo is built around the measured stone so its corners sit on the corners of the radiant, the gallery is pierced before the head is joined, and the pave is set last. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

Some photographs show this ring with stacking bands or worn alongside another ring. Those pieces are separate and are not included. The ring box shown is our standard packaging and comes with every order.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, brushing up through the open gallery and along both sides of the pave. A halo collects more than a plain setting, so clean it weekly. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? The centre radiant and every accent are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on all metals and all carat weights.

Does the carat weight include the halo and pave? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre radiant. All accents are in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Do halo stones fall out? Rarely, when set properly. If one ever does, send the ring to us and we will replace it.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, against the band, though the halo overhangs slightly at the sides. A shaped band tucks under it if you prefer.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back where the band is plain. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.
