A radiant cut lab grown diamond held in four corner claws and set east to west, lying across the finger on a plain slim band. The radiant is the shape that gains most from being turned. Its brilliant faceting throws light in all directions rather than in the broad directional flashes of a step cut, so rotating it ninety degrees does not lose anything, while the wide rectangular outline now spans the finger and reads as considerably more substantial than the same stone set the traditional way. It is a small change that makes a familiar cut look like a design decision. The band is bare and the gallery open so light still reaches the pavilion from beneath. With no accent stones, the metal colour is the only other choice in the design. Yellow and rose gold give the four corner claws a clear presence against the stone, white gold lets the rectangle read as wide as possible. For daily wear 14K is harder than 18K and better protects the cropped corners.

What does east west mean?
The stone is set with its long axis running across the finger rather than along it. It is one of the clearest ways to make a classic cut look contemporary without changing anything else about the ring.

Why does a radiant suit an east west setting particularly well?
Because its faceting is not directional. A step cut relies on long parallel planes that read differently when rotated, whereas a radiant scatters light evenly, so it looks equally alive turned sideways while gaining the extra visual width across the hand.

What is a radiant cut?
A rectangular stone with cropped corners like an emerald cut, but faceted like a brilliant underneath. It gives the clean architectural outline of a step cut with the fine scattered fire of a round.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Yes. The shank is slim, straight and free of settings, and the stone sits low, so a straight band meets it cleanly.
