Claw position on a cut cornered stone is a genuine choice, and it changes the apparent size of the diamond. A claw folded over the middle of a long side sits on the widest part of the outline, so it interrupts the silhouette exactly where the stone is broadest and takes a bite out of the measurement the eye makes. A claw on the cut corner sits at the shortest edge of the whole outline, where the stone is already narrowing, so the same amount of metal removes far less apparent width. On a radiant, which is bought largely for how much finger it covers, that difference is worth having. It also gives the claws better purchase: a cut corner is a small flat facet angled toward the setter, and metal folded over it grips two planes rather than sliding on one. The half pave shank then follows the same logic of restraint, decorating only the part of the band that is visible when the hand is at rest.

Band details

The shank is slim and the pave stops at the halfway point, leaving the lower half as plain polished metal. That plain half is where the ring rests against the palm, where it is resized, and where a wedding band meets it.
